Is registration free?Yes.Should I register as a writer or an editor?Register as an editor if you have a publication or a website, and you want to let potential contributors know about your writer's guidelines and rates of pay. Register as a writer if you wish to write for others. However, some people do both, in which case you may register up to three separate accounts. See the terms and conditions for more details. How do I update my listing?First login. Then go to the update page, which you can find on the navigation to the left. How do I get my profile noticed?Rather than simply saying that you will write anything, make your profile easy to search for by including keywords related to your areas of expertise. For example if you write comedy, you might also mention jokes, humour and funny stories. How do I get listed in the topic search?Mention the relevant keywords in your short profile description. For example, if you want to be listed under the "Travel" topic, use the word "travel" in your short description. How can people contact me?You have the choice of posting your email address or website and allowing people to contact you through them. However, if you would prefer not to post your email address on a public website in case of spam, there is a messaging system available for members. Why won't you tell me my password?Password reminders are only given out to members who have left an email address in their profile. If you don't want to leave a public email address, you can send one through the message system to this profile. This is to ensure that only the person who wrote the password has access to it, preventing people from posing as members in order to get their passwords, on the off chance that there are people who use the same ones for everything. Can you give me some advice about freelance writing? There are some articles on freelance writing that may give you some general pointers and hints. If you have a more specific question, please ask it in the Writing Talk forum. There isn't time to respond to this sort of query individually via email, and if it's a discussion that other people would benefit from it is best to ask it in the forum.I'm no longer writing / editing. How do I remove my profile? We need to ensure that the member requesting removal is the same as the person who signed up in the first place.Log in to your account and send a message through the website's message system to this profile. Click on "send a message" at the bottom of the page and write your removal request. Please be aware that you should not click on the "Contact" link at the foot of the page, since the form on that page will not transfer your login details. How do I become a featured writer?Featured writers are chosen semi-randomly from amongst the members with the most popular profiles, and from members who post in the forum. You can increase your chances of appearing on this page by making posts in the forum, and by writing a good description on your profile. If you want a regular spot on the "featured writers" page, you will need a highlighted listing. You can get this by submitting an original article of around 500 words for our articles section. Please note that we will only accept good quality articles, and by submitting one you grant Freelance Writers' Database a perpetual licence to publish your article on this website. What happened to my messages? In order to free up space, older messages may periodically be removed from the system. This currently applies to messages over 6 months old, and messages sent to members whose accounts have been deleted. Please back up any important messages in good time. What do you mean, my account is inactive? If you have received a message telling you that your account is inactive it means that you have not logged in for some months. All you need to do to refresh your account is simply log in, as this will update your profile with your most recent visit date.People sometimes retire from freelancing, leave email addresses that are no longer monitored, or simply have no need to look for extra work for a variety of reasons. Removing unused accounts makes the database more useful for all involved. |
